Olive polyphenols as a natural antioxidant supplement
In a controlled trial of 30 dogs, oil-free olive pulp flour at 11.5 mg per kg body weight per day lowered a blood marker of oxidative stress (d-ROMs).
What the research shows
- Lower oxidative stress marker (d-ROMs: 101.26 to 86.67 U CARR)30 dogs; p < 0.044 (Minieri et al. 2024)
- Tendency toward higher blood antioxidant capacityMinieri et al. 2024
- Natural polyphenols from olive pulp: hydroxytyrosol, tyrosol, oleuropeinBilal et al. 2025 (composition review)
Recommended inclusion
Supplement dose in the trial: 11.5 mg per kg body weight per day of oil-free olive pulp flour (about 230 mg per day for a 20 kg dog).
Complete pet food: inclusion is set for each recipe by palatability and digestibility tests.
In practice
